This project was titled Floating a New Economy for East Gippsland and  created a series of portraits in photography (me) and radio interviews and podcasts of artists (Catherine van Wilgenburg) demonstrating the role of the arts in the new economy in East Gippsland. We explored how art can facilitate the transition from the old economy to the new, through interviews with local artists and others. The output of the project documented the stories of people in the local community who are already involved in the transition through their art, their lives or their local business. The biggest challenge we have encountered in our work is how to effectively convey the culture change we feel is essential to make this leap. New positive narratives are required to help people imagine the future. What better avenue is there, than to share the stories of locals who are already living and breathing the leap we need to make?
